about.
The 3D disciplines at Towson University are anchored under the larger branch of Studio Art. An immersive two-year foundation program prepares students to enter the concentration areas of Ceramics, Interdisciplinary Object Design, Metalsmithing + Jewelry, and Sculpture. As students navigate the 3D programs they gain a comprehensive understanding of materials and process, and an understanding of the historical and contemporary context for their work. Four unique programs work collaboratively to provide students with a broad foundation, while their distinct approaches both technically and philosophically lend to specific areas of expertise. In their sophomore year, students will be required to take introductory courses from all 3D programs before choosing a concentration. As they progress, students continue to work alongside and collaborate with students of other disciplines. Each area is housed within the Center for the Arts and is outfitted with up-to-date facilities. The seniors within the BFA program have the opportunity to work in the Interdisciplinary Studio which serves as their private studio space and acts as a hub for cross curricular discourse.
